The gift of a camera in my teens led me to photography
and an ongoing fascination with the mediums
ability to capture light to share stories. I am
never more at home than when I have a camera in
my hands. Decades of photographic work and experimenting
with breaking the rules of photography
inform my current practice, as I search for different
ways to use photography to construct alternative
narratives.
Traditionally
weaving serves a structural, functional purpose
as well as a decorative one. In my work the intention
of the weaving is to disrupt the structure of the
photographic print, amplifying the energy, flow
and tension within the image. I take photographs
whilst cold water swimming, and through weaving
and collaging photographic prints I invite the viewer
to share different experiences of being in the water,
from the psychological and physiological effects
to the many questions raised about connection to
people, place and the environment.
